Dec 07
I bought the yarn for this in October but didn't start knitting until Dec 07. This is King Cole Homespun in a sort of silver grey. I had in mind a winter cardi to wear instead of a coat etc but wasn't really happy with the King Cole pattern that I had. So basically I left this big bag of grey wool untouched in my back room, as it was sooo uninspiring and felt slightly annoyed with myself! My mind was focussed on the Rowan Big Wool pea jacket on the cover of the New Shapes book. I really wanted to knit this but experts in the know at Ring a Rosie talked me out of it twice on account of how skinny the model on the front cover was and how unflattering this would look on me. Plus 48 pounds was a lot to spend on wool that would not look too good. Through various searches and advice from Pavi yarns I found the Garn studios web site. I saw this pattern and better still it was free and even better was the exact gauge of the Homespun in my back room making me feel guilty. I completed this in 2 weeks , could have been quicker but work got in the way. I still need to buy buttons ( doing that tomorrow) and press the seams. But overall am very pleased with this. Even more so because my sister has since commissioned one for herself!

Nearly finished (Phew)
The one and only thin that I have ever knit for my son. Boys stuff doesn't look too good once they get older. This was a chunky knit in King Cole Homespun. Knit on a 8mm this took a week and we were both pleased with how it looks.

I started this in France, knitting by the pool in Ile d'Oleron and at Bernay Riviere. This is from Louisa Harding Winters Muse. the original pattern is a coral and red angora with a lace pattern. there was no way I was going to attempt lace again so I did a plain knit. I love the colour combo of hot pink and red inspired by a childrens top i had seen. But as I learnt once i had completed the jumper Louisa Harding makes her patterns short in the body so alas this is too short. My mum has since stepped up to the challenge of horror of horrors cutting of the bottom band and adding some more to the body but I haven't had the guts to hand this over yet!

I can't claim to haave made this , my mum did. This is Rowan damask and she didn't like it and kindly handed her work of art over to me. Thanks mum!

From the Rowan Summer Magazine, but you wont recognise it in the book! The original pattern has a very pretty but precise lace heart pattern throughout the cardi. This was a nightmare for me as I like to knit whilst normal life goes on around me not in a locked and sound proofed room. needless to say after attempting the pattern several times I started from scratch with a nod in the direction of the lace pattern with 3 lines of ktog / yo repeated on back, arms, & sleeves. the edging is the same as the one on the purple silk and rowan cotton because i knew i could do this. The original pattern called for an angora edging (why ? i don't know, it looked ridiculous in the photo too). This was my first effort in a 4 ply cotton aka knitting with string. Although lengthy to knit I did finish it half way through our summer hols in france and loved the way it draped flatteringly.

By now you are probably starting to get a bit bored of the white duvet background. Bear with me I took all these photos tonight, I will try to vary this next time!
Ok, same pattern as Feb 07 but next size up and in in Debbie Bliss silk. You may wonder at the need to make a 4yr old a silk cardigan and assume my untold wealth ... but no.. this was a bargain find on ebay from Stash. What did I think of knitting with silk - the skeins were a pain as starting the ball off was very fiddley as the yarn is sooo slippy but the garment has a nice luxury feel with the added bonus of washing very well.

Colinette Giotto- yes that is some very poor finishing escaping on the sleeve you are right! I love knitting but am not a perfectionist!

This was a perfect knit for me as at the time I had to travel away from home for a week to study and sit my APMP exam. Knitting in giotto was an excellent stress buster because it is so pretty and the drop stitch pattern meant you saw instant results.

Ok, strictly speaking I did not finish this in March but that was my intention. This is the v necked cardigan from Twilleys of Stamford winter 06 pattern book. I started this in Dec 06 frogged several times andeventually learnt how to rib. I got to the end of the deep rib on the back and for some reason stopped. I picked this up again in Nov 07 and completed Nov 07 and very pleased with my self too. I loved the wool, it was a nice winter colour, in time for winter rather than out of season as i usually am, and could feel smug at liberating some wool from my stash.
